How to configure Filezilla to use the FTP proxy firewall

This process only applies if you use Filezilla for FTP to sites outside the University. Access to University sites should work normally without the need to reconfigure Filezilla.

1. In Filezilla, go to the Edit menu and choose Settings.
2. In the Filezilla Options dialogue box, find the Connection section of the ‘tree’ display at the left-hand side of the box. If there is a ‘ +  ’ (plus sign) box next to the word ‘Connection’, click it to expand the menu and show the settings you need.
3. Under Connection, click FTP proxy settings and change these settings:
   1. Select the ‘USER RemoteID@Remotehost’ option button (the sixth one in the list)
   2. In the ‘Proxy host’ box, type ftpproxy.ex.ac.uk
   3. In the ‘Port’ box, type 8021
   4. Leave the ‘User’ and ‘Pass’ boxes blank.
4. Under Connection, click Firewall settings and tick the ‘Passive mode’ box.
5. Under Connection, click Proxy settings and tick the ‘direct connection (no proxy)’ box.
6. Click OK to save your changes and close the dialogue box.
